Dear Gateway supporter,

We have discovered that our mailbox at our 960 Springfield Avenue, Irvington has been compromised sometime between the months of March and June. It looks as though this occurred in the beginning of the month.

Whoever has taken the mail has been able to deposit the checks into their account electronically. The missing checks clear the bank and the sender never knows that Gateway did not receive the donation. The back of the check is endorsed by hand in a scrawled type of handwriting using upper and lower case with the words "For Deposit". At times "deposit" has been misspelled. There are no other identifying marks on the back of the check since it was deposited electronically via their smartphone or ATM. 

If you have sent Gateway a gift in the past few months and have not received a receipt from us, please email me with the date and amount sent. If you have not retained receipts, please let us know and we will print out a listing of all gifts for the past few months.

We have contacted the Irvington Police and Irvington Post Office, visited the Post Office Police at Federal Plaza in Newark, and filed an online Post Office Fraud Report. In addition, a local bank has strongly urged us to have all our mail delivered to a post office box.

We have secured PO Box 1793, Union, NJ 07083, which will now be used as our mailing address. Our physical headquarters remains 960 Springfield Avenue in Irvington. As you know, we also maintain a satellite location at 65 Jefferson Avenue, in Elizabeth.

Unfortunately, each person affected must file a fraud report with their own bank. The bank will replace the funds into your own account, after which you may issue a replacement check to Gateway.
