F/T Job needed in the
Union County Area
If you have read our
recent Gateway Today newsletters or been on our Facebook page, you know that we
have been working with a couple from Sri Lanka.
Jey and Rechka had
baby Jorja on September 22nd. Jey has a green card, a NJ drivers license
and is currently employed at Ashley Foods in South Orange, making $10.50 an
hour sweeping the floor. Because he receives no other income, except occasional
overtime it is difficult for him to support his family. Jey rides to work on a
bicycle or takes the train or bus. He spends 2-3 hours a day traveling to and
from his job. He arrives home very late at night.
Baby Jorja just turned five months!
Jey has skills in
carpentry, electrical, computer repair, automotive and 2-3 years training in
engineering. He recently repaired a sewing machine we gave him! His language is
poor and so he has accepted the floor seeping job, but it it's still hard to
make ends meet. They get no government support (even food stamps) and he works
overtime just to meet his rent. he came to America in March (legally, through
an immigration lottery)
Would you or someone in your church know of a position closer to the Union area and with more stability?
Attached is his resume. He was interviewed (and liked) by Kean University's GSA Services. They have no position but will keep him in mind. They pay $15.50 but even $13.00 an hour would be a great help. We hope they can move to the Union area when their lease is up in August.
They are from a Hindu background but open to Christianity. She attends our church - Great Shepherd, in Springfield - every Sunday. His boss requires him to work Sundays so he's looking for a job where he can also attend church with his wife and child! I've observed him to be a hard worker, honest and very grateful for any opportunity. Thanks for anything that you can do. Thanks!
