Suspect Arrested for Double Murder, Kidnapping in Monroe County

13-year-old Hadley Bilger is safe tonight after being held at gunpoint for several hours on Sunday by a man police say killed her parents. The suspect is Hadley's uncle, 42-year-old Robert Lee Hixon. Police say Hixon, formerly of Danville, drove to his brother-in-law's house in Pocono Lake Saturday night and shot and killed Butch Bilger and his wife, Ellen. Investigators say Hixon then kidnapped Hadley. Officials say Hadley's 5-year-old sister was also home when the attacks happend, but was able to get to a neighbor's house and alert police.

Investigator's say Ellen Bilger was pronounced dead at the scene, but Butch was able to identify Hixon for police before he died. State police issued an Amber Alert and a description of Hixon's truck. An alert Schuylkill County trooper spotted Hixon's red pick-up, which led to a 45 minute car chase. Officers were finally able to stop Hixon's vehicle with tire spikes. Hixon released the young girl to police, but continued to hold officials at bay for four hours by threatening to take his own life. Around 3:30 Sunday evening, Hixon was finally taken into custody. A press conference is scheduled for Monday. Police have not given any indication as to what Hixon's motives might be for the murders, but one relative says she has an idea. According to her, Hixon has a history of mental problems and was obsessed with the young girl. The family member also says that Hadley's parent's were working with local police to keep Hixon away from their daughter. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------
